500th anniversary of the Renaissance in the Loire Valley: the call for certification of proposals has been launched
In 2019, the Centre-Val de Loire Region will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Renaissance. To prepare for these celebrations properly, a call for certification of initiatives has been launched in order to develop proposals in the region, initiate a dialogue between the past and the future and support ingenuity. Applications must be submitted before 30 April at 12 pm.

On 19 September 2015, following the two twinning agreements signed with Pekin’s former Summer Palace (2014) and Udaipur’s City Palace (India) at the beginning of this year, Chambord signed a partnership convention with La Venaria Reale in Piedmont.

The University of Orléans is undertaking a promotional/research project on the Volubilis archaeological site in Morocco which is listed as a World Heritage site. This project is part of the cooperation between the Centre-Loire Valley and Mekhnès-Tafilalet regions, and is funded by the regional research assistance programme. Mission Val de Loire will be involved in the promotion/adoption aspects.

As part of the activities of the UNESCO Chair "Rivers and Heritage: natural and cultural diversity of river landscapes", this workshop is being organised at Angers University on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 July 2015 to take stock of current research on the chair's theme and provide an initial discussion forum for researchers from the partner universities. The workshop is intended for academics, young researchers, professors, lecturers and students as well as the many professionals involved in water and environment management and development (local authorities, water management and development plans [SAGE], nature parks, federations and international organisations).

An Indian partnership for Chambord
On 9 April 2015, a partnership agreement was signed at Chambord between the National Estate of Chambord and the City Palace of Udaipur, managed by the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation. Developing exchanges between the Loire Valley châteaux and Rajasthan’s palaces was a shared wish, jointly expressed by Laurent Fabius, France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Inauguration of the centre for water excellence in Chinon
The centre, inaugurated in mid-December 2013 at 11 quai Danton in Chinon comprises three buildings. The first is dedicated to university premises and is home to IMACOF (Engineering of Aquatic Environments and River Corridors) and the CETU Elmis. The second building is home to a business incubator. The third is a farm house to be restored, which will cost a total investment of 2.2 million euros, of which 1.5 million has already been invested in the first two buildings.

Loire Festival 2013
A free, public event for all the family, every two years the Loire Festival welcomes Loire lovers as well as anyone wishing to set off in discovery of the beauty and wealth of the Loire Valley World Heritage. From 18 to 22 September, Orléans will be hosting the largest European gathering of rivercraft. Over 200 boats and 600 bargepeople, 400 artists and some 150 free activities will bring the banks to life along 2 km. The Mission Val de Loire will attend the Centre Regional Council's stand.

The Jargeau Tourist Information Office organised a free photo competition in the summer of 2013 on the theme "bridge(s)". This year, thanks to the Jargeau-Corsham twinning association, the competition was also open to people who live in Corsham (England).

Comenius Corner
Pupils at La Rabière secondary school (Joué-lès-Tours) are continuing to learn more about heritage in a Comenius European project. In particular, they have created a "Comenius Corner" at their school where everyone can go to find out about the heritage of European partners.

Eurodistrict Basel draws inspiration from the Loire Valley
The Trinational Eurodistrict Basel is a residential area and economic basin centred around Switzerland’s third largest city and the border towns and municipalities of France and Germany. Situated at a crossroads of languages, the area is taking up the challenge of preparing the first truly international “Internationale Bauaustellung” (IBA Basel 2020), with the aim of turning the unimaginable into fascinating reality. On 16 May 2012, Mission Val de Loire took part in the IBA Basel 2020 exhibition, an opportunity for work and discussion between local authority officials, technicians and project promoters with a view to initiating a common project alongside the Rhine.

The last Vitour Landscape project seminar, which was held in Chinon from 24 to 27 April 2012, brought together 10 European vineyards included on the World Heritage list. It also provided an opportunity for exchanges with the vineyards of Burgundy and Bordeaux. A meeting was held alongside the seminar, focusing on the possibility of the Loire Valley implementing a practice first developed in Tuscany: the creation of landscape and heritage atlases. The project now has its own blog: myVitour.

The "climats" of the Burgundy Wine Region submitted for World Heritage status
Since the Middle Ages, every 22 January the vinegrowers from each wine-making village in Burgundy have celebrated Saint-Vincent's Day, the patron saint of vinegrowers. In 2012, the celebrations also revolved around Burgundy's bid to list the "climats" of the Côte d'Or as a UNESCO World Heritage in July 2013 – suggested by the French Ministries of Ecology and Culture, alongside the Chauvet-Pont d'Arc painted cave. Representatives of the VITOUR network of European World Heritage Vineyards also attended.

VINIFLORE 2011 will be held on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November at the Edgard Pisani wine school (Montreuil-Bellay) and around 2,000 visitors are expected. Wines from different agricultural colleges, not just from every wine growing region of France, but also from some European wine growing regions, are offered for tasting and sale by students studying wine growing, making and tasting at the school.

The work relied on a participative process at the Municipality’s invitation, and it is to be hoped that it will be continued, based on the proposals for plans and scenarios put forward.
