Along with six other schools from Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Turkey, La Rabière secondary school (Joué-lès-Tours) is taking part in the Comenius school partnership project "Our heritage: knowing it better and preserving it". In December 2012, the twenty or so pupils from the Comenius club and their teachers Sandrine Mallet and Elisabeth Wagner welcomed their partners to the Loire Valley.

The Comenius club brings together some 20 year nine and year ten pupils once a week to learn about or be reminded of the specific features of the Loire Valley and those of other countries. What each partner school has in common is to belong to a region or boast sites or monuments that are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage

In a multidisciplinary approach, the club activities give the pupils a chance to acquire a variety of skills and put them into practice. For example, they have already made a presentation brochure of their school in English, the project's communication language, and created a logo for the project.

For two school years, the teaching teams and pupils are working on the joint project and meet at regular intervals to talk about it. From 11th to 14th December 2012, 28 secondary school pupils and 16 teachers from Europe took part in a series of encounters and visits, particularly to the châteaux of Amboise and Azay-le-Rideau, and the Balzac museum. The Mission Val de Loire provided communication material for this occasion.

For the next stages in the project, meetings will be held in the other European countries.
