For its 100th issue, the magazine “La Loire et ses terroirs” was graced with a new look!
For 25 years now, Philippe Auclerc has been overseeing the magazine “La Loire et ses terroirs” – whose 100th issue came out in September 2017. To mark the occasion, the magazine adopted a welcome new editorial strategy and visual identity, to continue to attract readers to and safeguard this encyclopaedia of the Loire which is constantly developing.
Tourism: a positive season for 2017 and plans for 2019
The CRT (regional tourist board) published an interim report for the 2017 tourist season. All the figures are looking good compared with last year, and even 2015, which was itself a good year. To ensure that this trend continues, the Centre-Val de Loire Region is carrying out several projects, including celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Renaissance in 2019.
2015-2034 Forest management of Domaine National de Chambord
The 2015-2034 Forest management document was approved by government decree dated 7 April 2016 and published in the Official Gazette (BO) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agrifood and Forestry (MAAF) on 14 April 2016. The main purpose of the Chambord forest management is to ensure the long-term survival of the château's wooded setting, a gem of the French Renaissance dedicated to hunting. Unquestionably, the links between the château and the forest are centuries old and each has profited from the other.
“Du Roi René à Végépolys”
Plant life is a key historical, patrimonial, scientific, technical, economic and cultural component of Anjou as a whole, as well as being of importance to tourism. This work covers six centuries of the history of plant life in Anjou, from the days of Good King René to the creation of the Végépolys competitive cluster. The author, Jean-Luc Gaignard, is Director of Strategy at Terre des Sciences and a former Research Engineer at INRA.
Inauguration of the newly restored former Saint-Libert Chapel
The newly restored former Saint-Libert Chapel in Tours was inaugurated on 13 May 2016. Property and headquarters of the Touraine Archaeological Society (SAT), it provides its owners with an ideal setting for their activities, permanent (office, meeting-room, collections, etc.) and temporary (lectures, concerts, seminar hosting, etc.) alike. The project enabled restoration of a piece of historical heritage set on the banks of the Loire and added to our knowledge of it – a perfect illustration of the Loire Valley World Heritage site’s values.
Ile de Baure - 2004-2014, a research and creation workshop
This publication tells of ten years of artistic adventure on an island in the middle of the Loire. From 2004 to 2014, the TALM Graduate School of Fine Arts - Angers Site was able to organise a research and creation workshop with the support of local stakeholders. The challenge for its students was to come up with artistic techniques in the great outdoors!
Layon Aubance Louets residents' guide
Over time, the riverbasin unions have increasingly taken responsibility for the restoration of waterways. But upkeep of the riverbanks and bed is the duty of the owners of both banks (in the case of private waterways) or of the State (in the case of public-owned waterways). The Layon Aubance Louets Water Management and Development Plan (SAGE) is publishing a "residents' guide" giving practical advice and recalling the regulations for residents (owners and/or operators) who would like to undertake work at the water's edge.
Fontevraud Abbey: from monastic life to the digital age
This is the title of the special issue jointly published by the Le Courrier de l'Ouest and Ouest-France newspapers. It came out on Tuesday 2 June and can be bought in newsagents and at the Fontevraud Abbey shop.
Call for funding for a "tourangelle" recipe book
The PETRi group of associations is launching a participatory funding project on the Kisskissbankbank platform for publishing the book "Tourangelles et Tourangeaux. À vos recettes !". This book will bring together some forty easy recipes made with local produce from the Tours region, based on sharing and passing on an intangible heritage that reflects the local way of life.
Rochecorbon history and heritage
Claude Mettavant, from the PHARE association (Heritage and History of Rochecorbon and Surrounding Areas), is publishing the first book in a collection: "Histoire et Patrimoine de Rochecorbon" (Rochecorbon history and heritage). Volume I of "Rochecorbon of the Middle Ages" takes readers on a mediaeval journey from the 9th to 13th centuries: how the town first came about, its first fortified castle and its castellan domains. A second volume will be published for the 14th and 15th centuries.

5th Encounter of “La Loire à Vélo” brand actors
The encounter took place at Caves Ackerman in Saumur on 14 October 2014. Organised by the Regional Agency on behalf of the Pays de La Loire and Centre Regions, the event brought together some 200 professionals.
2014 Rendezvous of the Loire Valley
The next Rendezvous of the Loire Valley World Heritage will be held on Tuesday 25 November at the Tours International Conference Centre, from 9:45am to 5:30pm. These meetings, nowadays organised every two years by Mission Val de Loire, are a unique chance to bring together all stakeholders involved and to talk about each one's present situation.

This publication by François Priet and Philippe Tanchoux of the University of Orléans is published by Presses Universitaires Rennes with the support of the Public Authorities body of the university. It deals with legal arrangement issues of the concepts of world heritage properties and outstanding universal value (OUV).
Pierre Prunet. Legacy and creation
The publication of the CAUE de Maine-et-Loire, IMAGO, has published a new issue dedicated to the work of this architect who has left a huge mark on contemporary architectural culture, particularly in Anjou. There was also an exhibition on him from 2 April to 6 June 2014.

Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park has just published its new presentation brochure, aimed at local inhabitants and newly elected local officials.
Tours along the tramway
The service of heritage promotion in Tours has just published the brochure "Laissez-vous conter Tours au fil du tramway" (Take in Tours on the tramway), an invitation to travel through the city along the tramway tracks. It is available on the City of Tours website, in the town hall and nearby towns, in the city's cultural establishments, as well as in the Tours tourist information office.
Villandry’s inhabitants try their hand at participating in the landscaping project
As part of an action research programme underway in Villandry, three workshops were held this autumn following in the footsteps of the landscape trails held in June 2013. The aim was to enlist participating villagers’ help in pinpointing the various landscaping issues involved and in mapping out paths of action to “dynamise and restructure the centre of Villandry".
Brochure on the Loire Valley World Heritage
Following on from the brochures on protecting and renovating traditional buildings in the Loire Valley, published for the départements of Loiret, Loir-et-Cher and Indre-et-Loire, the Fondation du patrimoine (Heritage Foundation) has produced a new brochure for the département of Maine-et-Loire.
“Beaugency. L’évolution d’une ville en Val de Loire”
This book, published by the Directorate of the Centre Region’s General Inventory in the “Cahiers du patrimoine” series (no.103), is the fruit of a General Inventory of Cultural Heritage operation covering the entire canton. It provides a summary of Beaugency’s urban and architectural development from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, preceded by an overview of the site’s occupation in earlier days.
A guide for successfully renovating your tuffeau stone home
The Loire Anjou Touraine Regional Natural Park is publishing a technical guide entitled “A tuffeau stone building for today and tomorrow”, produced with the help of construction professionals and local officials. It seeks to describe practical solutions for all those who would like to renovate their tuffeau stone home.
Call for subscription for a publication on the history of Beaugency
The Heritage Inventory Directorate of the Centre Region will shortly be publishing "BEAUGENCY. L’évolution d’une ville en Val de Loire" (BEAUGENCY. The changing face of a Loire Valley town) with the Lieux Dits publishing house, in the "Cahiers du patrimoine" collection. A subscription has been launched by the publisher to purchase the publication at a special rate, valid until 6th March 2013.

Agrocampus Ouest (Angers, Rennes) and the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire have published their 2013 training catalogue.
“Renaissance Banquets – Cuisine and treasures of table art in the 16th century”
This exhibition, labelled as being of national interest by the Ministry of Culture, is presented at the Château Royal de Blois from 7 July to 21 October 2012. Mounted by the Conservation du Château Royal et des Musées de Blois in collaboration with the European Institute of Food History and Culture (Tours University), it is the first exhibition entirely devoted to the theme in this particular period, and is a happy reminder of the recent inclusion of French gastronomy on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Joan of Arc in the Collections of the Museums of Orléans
This catalog available in English is published by the Museum of Fine Arts of Orléans and the Historical and Archaelogical Museum of the Orléanais for the 600th anniversary of Joan of Arc.
New edition of "Le Pays d'Azay-le-Rideau" Volume I
The Azay-le-Rideau youth centre and the Petri Union of Associations have brought about the publication of the “Le Pays d'Azay-le-Rideau” Volumes I and II. Following the publication of Volume II in October 2010, as part of the “memory in Images”, from the Alan Sutton publishing house, lots of readers were upset to find that they could no longer find Volume I on sale. A new edition of this book has just been published.

‘‘La Ville à l’État Gazeux’’
On 15, 16 and 17 September 2011, Tours and Saint-Pierre-des-Corps were taken over by"La Ville à l'Etat Gazeux" ( the City in a Gaseous State), an altogether out-of-the-ordinary rendezvous combining scientific proposition with artistic experiment, and bearing the “World Heritage site Val de Loire” label. It is organised by the pOlau – pôle des arts urbains – , a centre for research into and experimentation on arts and the city based in Saint-Pierre des Corps.
Saumur invites one and all to get to know its mills
The “City of Art and History” Department has just published a new booklet on Rue des Moulins (mill street), created in collaboration with the City of Saumur’s Council of the Wise. The street was the focus of a “Rencontre Paysages” (encounter with landscapes) organised in the summer of 2010 and led by Council of the Wise member M. Rousseau.
The renaissance of the "Loire’s Rivercraft and Ports"
180 players from Val de Loire, most of them local government officials, representatives of State departments (DREAL and DDT) and representatives of associations, took part in the two sessions of this UNESCO landscape workshop organised by Mission Val de Loire: a dual opportunity to gather information, share experience and enter into discussion. A landscape “specsheet” is to be published, recapitulating the conclusions reached during the course of the workshop.
Results of the “Loire passive house” competition
Initiated a few months ago by the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional nature park, the “Loire passive house” design competition offered a daring challenge: to combine energy efficiency with urban and social integration in a strong heritage setting. More than 100 entries from architectural students and architects rose to this challenge and the winners were announced on 16 April 2011. An exhibition at the Maison du Parc at Montsoreau, starting now, displays the best entries, while a book and a documentary are in preparation.
Preservation and rehabilitation of traditional buildings in World Heritage Val de Loire
This booklet published by the Fondation du Patrimoine (Heritage Foundation) seeks to make this particular part of our heritage better known and identified, through typology of the buildings concerned, an architectural glossary, and advice on use of traditional materials for upkeep, promotion or restoration of a property, whether inhabitable or otherwise, as well as giving a few reminders with regard to town-planning regulations.

Living every day in an exceptional setting (4th December 2010)
This was the theme of the day organised in Tours to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the UNESCO listing of the Loire Valley World Heritage. Exhibitions, conferences, films, readings and naturally the encounter with the Forum's 60 partners gave everyone the opportunity to get a clearer picture of our Loire heritage from all angles.
