The 2015-2034 Forest management document was approved by government decree dated 7 April 2016 and published in the Official Gazette (BO) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agrifood and Forestry (MAAF) on 14 April 2016. The main purpose of the Chambord forest management is to ensure the long-term survival of the château's wooded setting, a gem of the French Renaissance dedicated to hunting. Unquestionably, the links between the château and the forest are centuries old and each has profited from the other.

The oak tree is the main species found in the estate (70%). In order to ensure the long-term survival of the forest using a sustainable management approach, the management report plans for an area for the renewal of populations of up to 1,070 ha out of the total 5,030 ha.

Domaine National de Chambord is opting for a rational approach which conforms to the major principles of sustainable forest management, by committing to four objectives ranked by order of priority

  • Landscape: the "Monument Historique" (1997) and "site classé” (1923) listings involve strengthening the landscape concern from a heritage and archaeological perspective,
  • Biodiversity: the conservation and recovery of the biodiversity of environments and species and their network using wildlife corridors, in favour of the “Chambord ecosystem”,
  • Hunting: the forest must be for the benefit of large animals and provide a biotope which is favourable to their development,
  • Woody production in terms of renewing the forest: enhance the populations and harvest advocating the regeneration of the forest in the areas which are known for being productive; support the areas which are the least rich.
