The 2015-2034 Forest management document was approved by government decree dated 7 April 2016 and published in the Official Gazette (BO) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agrifood and Forestry (MAAF) on 14 April 2016. The main purpose of the Chambord forest management is to ensure the long-term survival of the château's wooded setting, a gem of the French Renaissance dedicated to hunting. Unquestionably, the links between the château and the forest are centuries old and each has profited from the other.
The oak tree is the main species found in the estate (70%). In order to ensure the long-term survival of the forest using a sustainable management approach, the management report plans for an area for the renewal of populations of up to 1,070 ha out of the total 5,030 ha.
Domaine National de Chambord is opting for a rational approach which conforms to the major principles of sustainable forest management, by committing to four objectives ranked by order of priority:
