Restoration of the Loire riverbed at Orléans
This work involves removing some of the trees behind the Saint-Charles duit (ribbon of stone built in the past in the Loire riverbed to partially channel its flow and facilitate sailing) to allow the water to flow better in periods of high water levels. This is because, over the past 30 years, the vegetation has grown considerably in this sector, which causes the level of the water after heavy rainfall to rise excessively, thereby increasing the risk of flooding. The provisional works schedule is intended to last 3 years in order to plan for an archaeological dig stage which got under way in November 2012.

Mopti, a city between earth and water, urban analysis and proposals for development
This document created by Mission Val de Loire seeks to bring to light coherent principles for development of the municipality of Mopti in Mali, based on the findings of urban analyses carried out during the “Territorial management of and preservation of heritage in river corridors” project concerning the Niger and Mekong Rivers, and in part during the “Niger Loire: governance and culture” project. The work relied on a participative process at the Municipality’s invitation, and it is to be hoped that it will be continued, based on the proposals for plans and scenarios put forward.
