Organising a training programme
Published on 17 October 2016 - Updated 16 December 2019
Adoption of the World Heritage site's values and improvement of its management are in part achieved by training the stakeholders at the different territorial levels. How can a training programme be planned in terms of trainees and training leaders? How can its content be designed? How can extensive involvement be achieved, on the part of all local stakeholders and populations alike?
To know...

How to ?
Heritage training within the World Heritage Site must enable local stakeholders to acquire sound knowledge of the heritage components, not least the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV), and to build their capacity to put the aims of the management plan into practice.
Become familiar with the baseline documents
- View the video presenting the OUV (available soon)
Identify the training requirements
- Consult the training contractors and supervisors
- Examine the specific status of the target stakeholders and their right to training
- Find out more about the right to training in the occupational sectors concerned
- Enquire about the local measures for training support and the time dedicated to training (particularly for tourist information centre guides or speakers)
Design and tailor the training scheme
- Tailor the training duration and content to the professional practices, requirements and expectations of the target group
- Particularly tailor the content bearing on the OUV, in keeping with professional practices
- Ensure strict management of registrations in terms of number of places, dates and duration
- Set up a training assessment tool
