The Loire Observatory, an association devoted to environmental education previously located in Blois city centre, moved to a fully renovated building in the Parc des Mées (La Chaussée Saint Victor) on 4 June 2016. The new premises are on 3 levels with a total surface area of 650 m²; they are open to all comers, the single aim being to help people understand and experience the Loire.

On the 1st floor, the scenography focuses on 3 themes:

  • the Loire navy (illustrated by the association’s boats)
  • prevention of risks (illustrated by the causeways, the Bouillie spillway)
  • ecological continuities (illustrated by the remains of the former dam and the Boire [oxbow lake]).

All five senses are brought into play through an active educational approach that includes models, weather station, knots, maps, mast manoeuvres and digital tablets.

A consultation area containing books and videos enables visitors to go into the various subjects in greater depth.

The terrace provides visitors with outstanding views over the Loire.

The Loire Observatory also organises walks in discovery of Parc des Mées and Val de la Chaussée Saint Victor.
