This booklet published by the Fondation du Patrimoine (Heritage Foundation) seeks to make this particular part of our heritage better known and identified, through typology of the buildings concerned, an architectural glossary, and advice on use of traditional materials for upkeep, promotion or restoration of a property, whether inhabitable or otherwise, as well as giving a few reminders with regard to town-planning regulations.

The booklet also gives details of financial aids (subsidies and/or tax relief) that may benefit private owners, granted by the Fondation du Patrimoine and its partner territorial communities. An address book of public, associative and private bodies able to be of technical assistance to private individuals in drawing up their restoration projects is also included.

Last December, at the Regional Council based in Orleans, Carole CANETTE, Vice-President of the Centre Region and Culture and Digital Creativity Delegate, awarded “Centre Region Heritage Foundation” plaques to 57 private and/or public project promoters. The ceremony was held in the presence of Frédéric NERAUD, Director of the Fondation du Patrimoine, and Claude JOLY, Regional Delegate of the Centre Region Fondation du Patrimoine. Projects largely concerned restoration of local heritage (churches, washhouses, stained-glass windows, statues, etc.).

The booklet was drafted with the technical assistance of the Foundation’s usual partners, in particular the Territorial Department of Architecture and Heritage and the “Maisons Paysannes de France” association.

The first booklet concerns the department of Loiret and will be followed by two further publications covering the departments of Loir-et-Cher and Indre-et-Loire.
