Plante & Cité is a national experiment and technical advice platform for local authorities’ Parks Departments and landscaping businesses. After three years’ planning and preparation, the Association now boasts a considerable membership among local government bodies and landscaping firms, and held its General Meeting in December 2008.

The impetus for founding this non-profit association was the realization that there was a need for experimentation and sharing of sustainable development techniques for managing parks and green spaces. It was set up in Angers in 2006 by some of the staff at advanced research and teaching institutions including the National Horticulture Institute and National Agronomics Research Institute, together with council officers and business people.

It is now the national technical centre for matters relating to parks and green spaces, and carries out various forms of applied experimental work.

The following made the main contribution:
  • representatives of local authority departments
  • representatives of landscaping businesses
  • representatives of research and technology transfer organisations
  • representatives of bodies offering technical support to the ornamental and landscape gardening trades.

The Plante & Cité project has been given "project" status at the Competitiveness Centre of the "Anjou-Loire Plant Life Specialists", Vegepolys.
