The pictures taken by photographer Jérôme Ming bear witness to the diversity of the landscapes that succeed one another along the course of the Mekong. His lens invites readers to make their way across Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Birmania, Vietnam and China. But this long and languorous journey does not ignore the threats that hang over the patrimonial riches abounding in the areas bordering the river. At a time when environmental questions remain subjects of major concern, Guy Lubeigt (CNRS) comes up with an alarming but salutary appraisal of the stakes at play with regard to preservation of Southeast Asia’s architectural wonders.

Tuk-Tuk Editions co-published with IRASEC (Institute for Research on Contemporary Southeast Asia).

2011 – 130 pages – €20

The book was created with the support of Mission Val de Loire, which had already mounted an exhibition (still available on loan) based on Jérôme Ming’s photographs. The exhibition has been presented at the Musée de la Marine de Loire in Châteauneuf-sur-Loire and at the Maison de Loire en Anjou in Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire, as well as by IRASEC through Southeast Asia’s consular network.
