The Petit Monde (Small World) Group is, for the second year running, organising a festival from 1 to 28 March 2009 starting in the city of Vientiane and then moving to Luang Prabang, in partnership with the Centre for Cultural and Linguistic Cooperation (CCCL).

The Group was set up in 2002 and is an integral part of the Project 244 collective, a creative co-operative for street arts. Small World aims to contribute to the emergence of new cultural forms by bringing together the vision of French and Laotian artists and by involving local people and NGOs. On the programme are open-air dancing, pétanque grounds, and floats, as well as dance lessons, wine tastings and samples of French cuisine - and of course concerts, open-air films, and other spectacles…

People in the Loire Valley will be able to taste a little of this adventure every week in La Nouvelle République, which will include a postcard from Laos sent by the Small World company.

The idea is to develop two-way exchanges: so while the exhibition on " Loire shipping in the XVIIIth century" will give the Laotians a chance to discover the history of another world-famous river, the people of the Loire Valley will be able to find out about life along the Mekong in the photographic exhibition at the Loire Shipping Museum (Châteauneuf-sur-Loire).

This project continues the policy of decentralised river-to-river cooperation between the Loire and the Mekong which many institutions of the Loire Valley have been developing, among them the Centre Region  (through its Loire Valley Task Group and other initiatives), the City of Chinon and the ADUC du Chinonais.
