Since the end of 2008, the team of La Ménitré village's history committee (Maine-et-Loire) has been studying the village's past. After consulting archives and documents, collecting postcards and photos and gathering personal accounts from the oldest inhabitants, the committee is seeing the fruit of its labour take shape: a book on La Ménitré's history almost 280 pages long, with 200 illustrations. Subscription is now open.

The book talks about the area before La Ménitré was founded in 1824, the Loire, the levees and its port, King René and Jeanne de Laval in their manor. Up next are the village's expansion in the 19th century with the first major town planning projects, then the prosperous age of the Belle Époque, the turn of the 20th century, its businesses and its festivities. Bleaker periods, during the two world wars, have not beenoverlooked.

Life in the countryside and the farming world feature prominently through a whole host of lively accounts. The contemporary era with the progress of urban planning and the valley's development is also given significant focus. The history of famous people and all those who have shaped La Ménitré is told as well.

Subscription: €20 until 15 September 2013, instead of €27 thereafter.
