Two initiatives give you the chance to find out more about this exceptional site: the "Carnets de Fontevraud" published by the Abbey with La Revue 303, and personal story videos on the time it was a prison.
Fontevraud Abbey and La Revue régionale 303 are initiating this new collection of books on the history of Fontevraud which sheds light on the key figures that left their mark on the site: Robert d’Arbrissel and the foundation, Eleanor of Aquitaine and Fontevraud's golden days, Jean Genet and the prison.
Reference historian texts and a whole host of illustrations make up these books which are all keys to understanding the history of Fontevraud and to delving deeper into the facts.
As part of the Inventory of the Fontevraud Cultural Heritage, the Pays de la Loire Region has produced videos of personal stories about Fontevraud Abbey's stint as a prison. Former prisoners and their families, former wardens and inhabitants of Fontevraud tell the tale of the "Maison centrale de détention".
