The Joint Committee, meeting on 10 December 2007, appointed François Bonneau, president of the Centre region, to succeed Jean Claude Antonini as the president of the cross-regional Mission Val de Loire. Jacques Auxiette, president of the Pays de la Loire region, will serve as vice-president.
When the Mission was created in 2002, the Pays de la Loire and
Centre regions agreed on a revolving presidency that would
alternate between the two regions every three years. During the
last three years, Jean-Claude Antonini has driven through a strong
programme aimed at promoting the Val de Loire's inclusion on the
UNESCO list of World Heritage sites, in particular with regard to
tourism and opening the region up more fully in international
terms.
