Loire Landscapes, of Saumur and Angers and depictions of everyday life - real scenes of provincial life in Anjou which we are able to discover, according to all artistic movements: Impressionism, Realism, Modernism, and so on. The publication's author is Fabrice Masson, art historian and former head of heritage for the town of Saumur.
In almost 370 illustrated entries, the author gives a panorama of the artistic activity in the Maine-et-Loire département over the 19th and 20th centuries.
Dominated by the brilliance of artists whose fame largely spread beyond the region's border (David d’Angers, Jules-Eugène Lenepveu, Henri Lebasque, Jean- Adrien Mercier, Jacques Despierre, Daniel Tremblay, and so on), the period chosen was full of artists, sculptors, engravers and master glassmakers who are less wellknown nowadays, but whose work holds wonderful discoveries and real emotion.
The publication is aimed at both art lovers and those who are fond of Anjou. Both groups will find detailed entries here which, where required, list the most relevant bibliographies and abundant, often new, illustration.
