The Yolande d’Anjou lower secondary school in Saumur is one of the participants in this European Comenius project.

The aim of the project is to give students the opportunity to:
- Explore and study their town and its river
- Meet students from lower secondary schools throughout Europe
- Find out more about their shared European heritage and European citizenship
- Communicate in English, French and German

The project is bringing together five European schools in towns located on rivers: Saumur in France (Loire), Meppel in the Netherlands (L’iljel), Gdansk in Poland (Vistule), Drobeta Turnu-Severin in Romania (Danube) and Istrana near to Treviso in Italy (La Sile).

During this first year, the students produced two photographic exhibitions on the Loire and the Val de Loire – World Heritage site (as part of the competition "The European Union seen from the air"). They also conducted a survey on European citizenship amongst students in their first four years of secondary school, the results of which were compiled on a CD-Rom.

Finally, students corresponded with each other both on an individual basis and together, as classes. The teachers had a chance to meet up in the Netherlands from 16 to 21 April to share their results and conclude their year of European exploration in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
