Since mid-December 2008, the chateau of Angers has benefitted from the lighting of the internationally famous artist, Yann Kersalé. An investment of 415,000 euros for the town of Angers, that is looking to become more appealing and to retain visitors for one or two nights with this project.

This lighting is only the first stage of a 5 year project aiming to "create a real circuit trail in the town". One of the constraints imposed is to considerably decrease the consumption of energy.

600 years since the birth of King René in 2009

Following the initiative of the chateau of Angers , several sites attached to the memory of King René have come together to draw up a project to build a multi-facetted portrait of King René, illustrated in each site by a particular theme.

Born at the château of Angers in January 1409, duke of the province from 1434 up to his death in 1480, this great prince always showed his attachment to the Anjou region where he stayed repeatedly. His reputation was huge in his time and the dynastic fortunes that also made him duke of Bar, count of Provence, king of Jerusalem and of Sicily have made his memory endure in Naples where he reigned for 4 years.

In January 2009, a partial and symbolic restitution of the drawbridge of the Porte des Champs, that was the main entrance to the chateau of Angers, will be created, consisting in a wooden walkway, an advanced viewpoint overlooking the ditches. This operation benefits from important patronage from various businesses and « Mécènes et Loire  (Patrons and the Loire)».
