Taking its cue from the UNESCO “River Culture” Chair’s activities,, this future theme-based issue of Norois plans to provide an overview of the most recent work on dynamic interactions between societies and rivers on various timescales and their role in the development of fluvial landscapes. Proposals for articles must reach the coordinators before 10 December 2014. Selected proposals will be submitted in March 2015 as articles meeting the journal’s standards, and will undergo the usual expert appraisal procedure before being accepted for possible publication in one of its 2016 issues.

In compliance with the journal’s editorial policy, contributions will focus on valleys in Atlantic areas (Europe, Africa and the Americas) to enable inclusion of a comparative table of international scope. The UNESCO Chair’s programme pays special attention to management of fluvial sites inscribed on the World Heritage List, including the Loire Valley.

Norois

Norois is the journal of France’s Centre-Ouest universities’ geography departments, with Angers and Tours Universities playing a leading role in its content. It is referenced by AERES, the French authority for assessment of research, and is recognised by the CNRS for its scientific contributions.

The upcoming theme-based issue is designed to be complementary (in particular through its international focus) to the one published in 2013 devoted to the granting of heritage status to river landscapes in the west of France: http://norois.revues.org/4710
