At the Plenary Session of 16th and 17th October 2008, the regional councillors of the Centre region were made familiar with a communication by François Bonneau, President of the Conseil Régional and the Mission Val de Loire, introduced to the session by Agnès Thibal, Vice-President of the Centre region in charge of the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Loire.
This
communication
first of all recalled the
characteristics and scope of the Val de Loire's registration on the
World Heritage List, as well as the original tool for registration
management implemented through the Charter of commitment. The
State, local authorities and public players are concerned with the
preservation and promotion of the site, acting in a wide range of
fields such as the economy, in particular tourism, the environment
and landscapes, education and culture.
The communication assessed the
2002/2007 activities of the
Mission Val de Loire, an operational device made up in the
form of an inter-regional Mixed Trade Union consisting of the
Centre and Pays de la Loire regions. This assessment was
« fairly comprehensive and gives
a good idea of the Mission's actions and unquestionable
successes. » in the eyes of the
Conseil Regional Economic and Social
council (CESR)
.
It also recalls, as stated by
Agnès Thibal, Vice-president of the Centre region, that
« six years after the Mission's creation, the two
regional executives wanted to encourage a new
dynamic », which is translated as the
Mission Val de Loire's directions and priorities for the 2008
- 2010 period:
-
The
appropriation of the values of the registration by the
Loire population:
-
The
animation of the key players and the Authorities who have
a responsibility towards
the quality and preservation of the registeredVal de
Loire;
-
The support for organisations contributing to the
international influence of the registered sites, in
particular the Regions themselves
.
« The registration of the
Val de Loire in the World Heritage of Humanity is an
extraordinary asset. The two regions of Centre and Pays de
la Loire strongly wish to promote and preserve the natural and
cultural elements in a
vibrant and creative approach »,
insists François Bonneau in conclusion.
A determination that echoes the
CESR view that states: « Respecting spaces means that the
classified space and its neighbouring areas can take advantage of
this international recognition without there being a confusion of
image. Respecting time means
knowing how to live from day to day with one's past whilst
working towards and innovating for the
future. »
