The second County Tourist Development Plan for 2009-2015 defines the County Council’s new tourism assistance policy. This is a medium-term action plan, reflecting the ambition and strategic choices made in favour of developing tourism in the region.

Two overlapping themes have been chosen:

  • the Loire Valley , with the inclusion of the Val de Loire as a UNESCO World Heritage since 2000, including the theme of troglodytes.
  • plant life , with the setup of the internationally-focused competitiveness cluster in specialist plant sectors (Végépolys), which will soon benefit from the opening of Terra Botanica, the first theme park to be entirely devoted to plants. Promotion of the wine region should be included in this theme.

Particular emphasis is placed on plants in the descriptions of certain actions: enhancement of noteworthy towns and villages in Anjou, accommodation (hotels, camp sites, B&Bs) as well as some tourist sites.

For the Loire, this particularly involves initiatives concerning main accommodation facilities, camp sites, B&Bs and leisure activities practised especially in the Loire Valley (cycling, canoeing/kayaking, horse riding), as well as the Maine area.
