4 Agrocampus Ouest landscape engineering students, some of them already graduates, were awarded first prize in the “Gardens of Expression” competition organised by Angers Loire Métropole.

In 2014, following the example set by Chaumont’s Garden Festival, the competition required participants to create a garden on the theme “A wave of madness”, evolving along with the changing seasons. Only students from horticultural and landscaping schools in the Angers region could apply. Gardens are on show to the public at the Parc de Pignerolles in Saint-Barthélémy d'Anjou, with the winning garden set to be re-created in Angers city centre for the following season.

Creativity & Plant Life – fertile ground indeed!

On 5 February 2015, a meeting focusing on the theme was held at Angers’ Higher School of Agriculture, organised by Angers Loire Développement (Mission Angers Créativité & Culture) in partnership with Terre des Sciences, Végépolys, the school and Agrocampus Ouest.

While the “Gardens of Expression” competition gave students an opportunity to develop their creativity, Angevin professionals have also been tilling the fertile ground produced by the “Creativity/Plant Life” duo.

What fruitful interactions (existing or yet to come) might there be between the vegetable kingdom and creativity?
How should public expectations be taken into account?
