This symposium was organised by the French Association of Canadian Studies, l’Association Française d’Etudes Canadiennes (AFEC) to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. It took place from 8 to 10 June 2006 in Saumur.
Each year the symposium sets out to compare French and Canadian experiences. In 2006, the AFEC focused more closely on the question of the management of open spaces and wild areas, and in particular on the management practices of the major national and regional parks.
The Scientific Director of the International Rivers and Heritage Institute, Vincent Perthuisot, gave a presentation during the session on "Natural heritage -flora and fauna- and culture" entitled "The International Rivers and Heritage Institute and the approach to Heritage Promotion in the Loire Valley".
