Natural heritage, cultural heritage: what shared ambitions?

Organised by the Federation of Conservatories of Natural Areas (FCEN) in partnership with Mission Val de Loire, the seminar is set to take place on the Loire Valley World Heritage site on 22 and 23 June 2016, with the first day in Tours and the second in the field, following an itinerary along the Loire (between Villandry and Bréhémont), by canoe and bicycle. Speakers will seek to put “natural heritage” and “cultural heritage” into perspective.

How did such management logics develop?

In the context of the “Loire Grandeur Nature” plan, the FCEN’s Loire Nature Resource Centre seeks to foster closer ties between Loire Basin managers. On the Loire, as on many other natural sites, natural and cultural assets go side by side, even becoming almost indistinguishable from each other. Consequently natural and cultural heritage managers must be led to confer with one another to coordinate their actions. The seminar will see management logics compared and put into perspective in order to identify where they differ and where they concur.

What relationships exist between nature and culture?

How do nature and culture become heritage, and what are the consequences of their doing so?

Such questions will be tackled using examples illustrating convergences and divergences in management of natural heritage and cultural heritage, in the seminar room and in the field.

Actors in heritage management will have the opportunity to exchange viewpoints, contribute to the debate and help find common solutions.
