The colloquium is organised by the Laboratoire Collectivités Territoriales (Local Authorities Laboratory) and will be held at the University of Orleans on 7 and 8 December 2011, focusing on a subject that will be of interest to all at a time when drafting of the Val de Loire Management Plan is underway. The two days will provide an opportunity to raise questions on the features of Val de Loire’s heritage that go to make up the “cultural landscape” recognised by UNESCO since 2000, and on the legal issues involved in protection and enhancement of the area.

Programme

7 December: VAL DE LOIRE: HERITAGE AND IDENTITY

  • Identification of heritage – Well-known and complementary heritage in Val de Loire
  • Enhancement of heritage – Enhancement, appropriation, and indifference to heritage

8 December: TOOLS FOR PROTECTION AND HERITAGE POLICY IN VAL DE LOIRE

  • Institutions and legal tools – Reduction of complexity, territorial widening of protection, and legal standing of labels
  • Management of large heritage areas
