Since 2008, the Maison de Loire in Anjou has organised these biennials which give the general public the opportunity to sail down the river and to better understand the bonds which tie inhabitants to their river, whether they are at the ends of the Loire or the ends of the earth. For 2012, the Vallée Loire Authion Community of Communes is getting involved in the organisation of the event with the aim of making it a real cultural and festive meeting point for those who live here and for tourists who have come to explore the area.

Between February and May 2012, the 8 communes which belong to the Vallée Loire Authion Community of Communes (Andard, Brain-sur-l'Authion, Bauné, Corné, La Bohalle, La Daguenière, La Ménitré and Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire) will adopt the Portuguese colours.

All inhabitants and all local associations are invited to join in the project to celebrate the river together.

Provisional timetable:

  • March 2012: 4 presentation evenings in 4 of the territory’s communes
  • Friday 30 and Saturday 31 March: Colloque Loire-Douro: Talks by professionals and scientists on the topics of UNESCO and the wine growing landscapes along the Loire and in the mountain regions of the Douro.
  • Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 May: Festive weekend in Portuguese colours.  Local produce market, shows, dinner/dance, folklore etc. Parade of giants.

These meetings are open to all.
