This dramatised reading on the theme of the Loire and its floods – the 1856 flood in particular – was created in 2008 with the actors Laure Mandraud and Yannick Nédélec. It was awarded the “Val de Loire patrimoine mondial” label by Mission Val de Loire. The Promothéâtre Company is available for any adaptation.

The show lasts an hour and is suitable for all sections of the public. It has been presented some twenty times at sites crossed by the Loire, including Montlouis, Langeais (as part of the “Jours de Loire” programme), Amboise, Nouzilly, Lussault sur Loire, Vouvray, and La Chapelle Saint Mesmin (Loiret), and can be presented in any municipality in the Loire Basin.

We are in the year 1856, a few months after the great flood in June. Jean Basire, a roads and bridges engineer mobilised when it happened, has sent his sister away in order to spare her an experience he deems too terrible for her to bear. He writes to her at length, describing his impressions and the dramatic circumstances that surround the flood. But the young woman decides to come and see for herself how her village has survived the cataclysm of the devouring waters...
