This “Excavation Memoir”, jointly published by INRAP and the City of Angers, focuses on the city’s history in Antiquity. Available online, it reveals Iuliomagus in all its glory, a city under Roman influence in the 1st century AD.
Public buildings, luxurious houses, military presence, daily life, life and death, religion, and more besides… all examined under the new light of archaeology to provide an unprecedented portrait of the city from the early 1st century to late Antiquity.
Since the 1970s, preventive archaeological excavations have been carried out in Angers prior to fresh urban developments. This provides greater knowledge of the city without hindering its evolution and modernisation.
