The "Habiter l’eau" (Living at the water's edge) Loire laboratory 2017-2018
Since 2015, Mission Val de Loire World Heritage, in partnership with the Urban Planning Agencies of the Tours Urban Area (ATU) and of the Region of Angers (AURA) has been providing local authorities of the UNESCO Loire Valley site with a programme of university workshops, "Habiter l’eau” in order to design and discuss the renewal of the Loire landscapes, with regard to new tourist, residential and agricultural uses. The 2017 and 2018 editions have seen the partnership increase to include the Établissement Public Loire and the Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition and have focused their work on the uses of the river area from the point of view of climate change.

The aim of this guide is to share a method for taking into account world heritage issues prior to any formative intervention in the region. It stems from an initiative developed jointly with the local authorities of the listed property.

Modification of the UNESCO site’s limits
Meeting for its 41st session, held in Krakow in early July, UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee decided to incorporate Château de Chenonceau and its surroundings, along with the outstanding landscaped site, the Eperon de Marnay, into the Loire Valley World Heritage site.

High turnout at the Rendezvous of the Loire Valley 2016
Over 450 participants gathered together at the Tours Conference Centre for the 11th Rendezvous of the Loire Valley. It was an excellent opportunity for all of the UNESCO site's stakeholders to share and compare their visions for the preservation and promotion of the Loire Valley World Heritage site, through their proposals and accomplishments.

Exhibition “From the banks of the Loire to Tortuga Island”
The exhibition, which bears the Loire Valley World Heritage label, is the first event in the “Loire des Lumières” programme. It illustrates the historical links that united the Antilles and Anjou from the 17th to the 19th century. Housed in Sainte-Barbe des Mines Chapel in Chalonnes-sur-Loire from 10 May to 30 October 2014, it invites visitors – local inhabitants, school groups and national tourists alike – to reacquaint themselves with the history of these two regions, separated by the Atlantic Ocean but linked by a shared past.

Tours 1500, Arts Capital
The exhibition at the Tours Musée des Beaux-Arts, on display from 17 March to 17 June 2012, is the first major exhibition to focus exclusively on the intense artistic flourishing of the pre-Renaissance period in Touraine – spurred by the Royal presence and the Court. Through a selection of paintings, illuminated manuscripts, stained-glass windows, sculptures, enamels and tapestries, it sheds light on an exceptional production from countless public and private French and foreign collections.

Colloquium: “World Heritage site Val de Loire, identity, protection and enhancement”
The colloquium is organised by the Laboratoire Collectivités Territoriales (Local Authorities Laboratory) and will be held at the University of Orleans on 7 and 8 December 2011, focusing on a subject that will be of interest to all at a time when drafting of the Val de Loire Management Plan is underway. The two days will provide an opportunity to raise questions on the features of Val de Loire’s heritage that go to make up the “cultural landscape” recognised by UNESCO since 2000, and on the legal issues involved in protection and enhancement of the area.

It is organised by the pOlau – pôle des arts urbains – , a centre for research into and experimentation on arts and the city based in Saint-Pierre des Corps.
