A range of training course for mediators has been organised with a view to helping improve transmission of World Heritage and the Loire Valley cultural landscape’s values to the public at large.
On 2 March 2016, in partnership with Angers’ and Saumur’s “Town of Art and History” departments, Mission Val de Loire organised an afternoon on Loire Valley landscapes between Saumur and Angers, intended for tourist guides.
Some twenty guides and heritage facilitators participated, making their way across the Loire Valley World Heritage site, alongside the dyke and then up on the hillsides with several stops along the way: Saint-Clément-des-Levées bargees’ village, Saint-Maur port in La Ménitré, the troglodytic hillside in Gennes and the Ponts-de-Cé pumping station.
They were accompanied by commentary from Rémi Deleplancque, Engineering and Cultural Mediation Mission Officer at Mission Val de Loire, and Fabrice Redois, geology teacher/researcher at Angers University.
Two other events are in the pipeline, a second outing with Saumur and Angers guides, focusing this time on past and present uses of the Loire, and one in Tours with VAH guides from Tours, Chinon and Pays Loire Touraine.
Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park is continuing to holding free training sessions designed for tourism professionals, focusing on the Loire and Vienne’s natural heritage and current regulations bearing on the two rivers.

From 7 to 9 March 2016, some twenty professionals from 11 inscribed or candidate World Heritage sites got together in Arc-et-Senans to work on questions of World Heritage mediation. Virginie Boyer, heritage facilitator in Orleans, was there to represent the Loire Valley.
The course focused on the notion of World Heritage and its corollary, Outstanding Universal Value (OUV), shared by all sites concerned. Participants were asked to exchange ideas on how best to adapt, transmit and share these concepts/values taking account of individual practices and the various target audiences concerned.
The course was organised by the Association of World Heritage Properties in France (ABFPM) at the invitation of the Royal Saltworks in Arc-et-Senans, in collaboration with Mission Val de Loire, Mission Bassin Minier and the Vauban Network.
