With only original photographs on display – most of which have never been seen before – this exhibition gives visitors a retrospective insight into the city of Tours over more than a century (1850-1980). A programme of lectures and film showings will also take place alongside the exhibition, which will run from 19th January to 30th March 2013.

Through this photographic memory, everyone will learn or be reminded of both the changing and unchanging aspects of the city. This subtle balance of the past, striking a chord with the present, reflects the perpetual renewal of an urban landscape that is as familiar as it is unexpected: a clever combination that constitutes the identity of this city

On the tours.fr website, some of the photos on display are uploaded daily. Any inhabitants wishing to share royalty-free photos can do so usingthe online submission form. The City of Tours municipal archives department will study the photos and decide whether or not to put them online.

The exhibition catalogue (224 pages - €24) is on sale in the gift shop laid out in the City Hall peristyle, in the usual bookshops and shortly online on tours.fr.
