For its fifth session, the University summer school is introducing a new format by offering a travelling event organised from the 26 to the 30 September, and including a one day field trip.

The University of Tours in collaboration with the Val de Loire Mission and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, is organising a five day travelling “Val de Loire – World heritage” summer school in Tours, and Nantes via Angers, on the theme “Rivers and heritage: identification, protection and development.”

This event, labelled European summer school by the Ministry for Education, carries on the work of the four preceding “Val de Loire – World Heritage” summer schools organised in 2002 in Chinon, in 2002 in Tours, in 2003 in Saumur and in 2004 in Orléans.
This fifth meeting will tackle the follow subjects:
  • What is river heritage?
  • The natural, environmental and landscape heritage of rivers. Vulnerabilities and protection.
  • What public institutions are needed to manage these vast and fragile spaces?
  • Relationships with the river : practices, perceptions and imaginary
  • Management tools for the conservation of estuaries
  • Cultural heritage and river navigation
  • Identification and promotion of cultural heritage associated with  rivers

In addition, the travelling format of this year’s summer school along the Val de Loire marks the launch of l’Institut international fleuves et patrimoine, the International Rivers and Heritage Institute.

This new body for training and expertise is in effect tasked to coordinate the competences developed in the Val de Loire in matters of managing the heritage of river corridors in order to make this knowledge and know-how available for everyone at a national and international level.

If you wish to participate in this summer school, download the enrolment form and the pre-programme.
