The Centre des Monuments Nationaux hopes to get the work under way in less than a year, with a view to reopening for the 2011 season.

The fire at the Logis Royal in January 2009 weakened and destroyed the roof, the framework, the floor and some areas of stonework. Emergency measures, amounting to €725,000, include putting up scaffolding and a provisional roof, to protect it against bad weather throughout the restoration works.

Costs of the restoration itself have provisionally been put at €5M. As announced by the French Minister of Culture and Communication the day after the fire, the restoration work will be funded specifically by the State.
At the same time, additional work costing €2M will be carried out, including:
  • construction of a staircase providing access for people with reduced mobility
  • rearranging the rooms to house a new permanent exhibition of the Anjou-Valois dynasty (1339-1481)

The Centre des Monuments Nationaux is launching a call for public generosity to contribute to funding the monument's restoration, together with the Fondation du Patrimoine, through its Maine-et-Loire delegation and the Maine-et-Loire Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The hope is to collect €2M over two years.
