Since the beginning of February 2016, thanks to a partnership between the National Monuments Centre and the Mobilier National, visitors to Château d'Azay-le-Rideau have been treated to a ground floor imbued with the atmosphere created by its 19th-century owners, the Biencourt family.
The partnership with the Mobilier National has led to over 80 items of furniture, art objects and accessories being arranged in the Grand Salon.
In parallel, items that once belonged to the Biencourts, along with a collection of Renaissance portraits similar to those the family owned, have recently been acquired and restored.
The operation forms a key part of the “#AzayRenaissance” restoration and promotion campaign launched by the National Monuments Centre at Château d’Azay-le-Rideau in 2015, with its completion date set for late 2017. By 2018, the entire ground floor (billiard room, library, dining room, kitchen and pantry) should be on show refurnished thanks to this strategic partnership.
An observatory beneath the beams
Château d’Azay-le-Rideau has also set up a platform beneath its 16th-century framework with a view to getting visitors behind the scenes of the restoration project currently underway, so they can see for themselves the carpenters and roofers, Compagnons du Devoir, plying their age-old trade.
