The Orléans branch of INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research) has launched a website devoted to this national programme initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
The black poplar (Populus nigra L) is a dominant
species along our riverbanks. Today,
the diversity of this species is under threat from human
activity
in the
Riparian forest
and possible hybridization with ornamental and
cultivated poplars.
The aim of the website is to:
raise awareness of all aspects of the black poplar: biology, genetic diversity, programme and initiatives;
make as people as possible aware of the need to protect this natural heritage: the general public, environmental protection associations, students, local authorities, etc.
