Last February, the Centre-Val de Loire Region announced the creation of a new intangible campus dedicated to the tourism, heritage and craft professions. The PatMat campus has been awarded the “Campus d'excellence’ label by the Ministry of National Education.
This new "campus for trades and qualifications of excellence in Heritage, Crafts and Tourism" (PatMAT) groups together various training providers already in operation Region-wide: sixth-form colleges, universities, apprenticeship training centres and businesses.
It is aiming to better align the education and training provision with the needs of professionals working in the craft and tourism sectors. Thanks to the wealth of cultural and architectural heritage our region harbours, crafts provide a significant source of employment. As for tourism, this is a sector facing constant diversification. Enhancing the appeal of the related professions is therefore of the utmost importance.
The PatMat campus is expected to accommodate more than 3,000 students across the various disciplines.
Its recognition as a "Campus d'excellence" will help promote such professions among youngsters, encouraging them to train and play an active part in the life of their local area.
