Château Royal de Blois, the Slate Museum in Trélazé and Maison de Jeanne d’Arc in Orleans have been given a new look for 2012, all the better to attract visitors. The royal lodge at Château d’Angers, which was partly destroyed in a fire 3 years ago, will once again be open to the public.

The new scenography enables visitors to immerse themselves in court life during the Renaissance. Enlivened by sound effects and optional dramatized audioguiding, the new visit owes much of its freshness and interest to the presentation of outstanding and hitherto unseen collections including Renaissance paintings and art objects and neo-Renaissance furniture.

The total cost of the overhaul is to the tune of 1.2 million euros, three quarters of which is being financed by the city of Blois and one quarter by the Region, under a multiannual plan.

The royal lodge has been fully restored following the fire in 2009. Although the new scenography will not be in operation this year, it will be open to the public from the summer onwards, and visitors will at least have its murals to admire.

Maison de Jeanne d’Arc

To mark the 600th anniversary of Joan of Arc’s birth, 325,000 euros have been invested in restoring the building and creating a scenography that owes a great deal to digital technology, with multimedia terminals and animated films.

The museography has been redesigned throughout, with provision of an educational interactive area (multimedia terminals, etc.) for younger visitors. Among other things, you can acquaint yourself with the geology involved, the history of slate quarrying, the development of extraction techniques over more than 600 years, the life led by the quarrymen, and articles fashioned from slate.
