Following the Territorial Conference of 29 November 2011, devoted to the presentation of the Management Plan for the UNESCO World Heritage site, the local authorities concerned were invited to deliberate on the plan. In February and March 2012, 4 information and discussion days brought together 263 participants from the listed site’s municipalities, groups of municipalities, départements and regions. So far, a total of 143 local authorities have taken their decisions with regard to the Management Plan.

Out of the 143 commitments, 123 come from municipalities acting as contractors for the site, i.e. 75% of the 164 municipalities concerned

Larger local authorities include the cities of Orleans, Blois, Tours, Chinon, Saumur and Amboise, the Agglomeration Communities of Orleans, Blois, Tours, Angers and Saumur, Loir-et-Cher and Maine-et-Loire General Councils, the Loire Anjou Touraine RNP, and the Saumur and Amboise agglomerations’ SCOTs syndicates.

Division of the 143 local authorities that have so far committed themselves:

  • 30 in Loiret
  • 29 in Loir et Cher
  • 53 in Indre et Loire
  • 31 in Maine et Loire

In their decisions, close to half of the above local authorities have highlighted achievements or projects in the spirit of the Management Plan. 39% of such actions concern land development, 28% concern planning, 25% concern operations for discovery of heritage and territory, and 10% concern development of knowledge.
