Three Mali partners are taking part in missions in the Val de Loire as part of the decentralised Loire-Niger river-to-river partnership.

Mady Bagayoko, Director of Technical Services for Mopti, a portside town in the Niger Inland Delta, is travelling to France on a mission from 31 May to 20 June 2009. During his stay, he will meet with organisations working on water issues: port, navigation and drainage.

His trip will take in:

In the Val de Loire, Mr Bagayoko was able to find out what was being done about leisure sailing ( "Loire Fleet and Ports" Plan, visit to port sites in Indre-et-Loire, meeting with the association Boutavant, and trip to Vendôme and Orléans). He also paid a visit to the Véron ecomuseum (photos) and met with the IMACOF.
This is also an opportunity to outline partnership prospects between the Val de Loire and Mopti through the project "Niger-Loire: governance and culture" .

Bani Touré, Head of the one-year postgraduate diploma in Decentralisation and Local Development Engineering (DESS DlDL) at the University of Bamako, came from 27 May to 7 June 2009, as part of the joint venture "Niger-Loire: governance and culture" , to work with Val de Loire academics on the model project of the DESS DIDL.

Moulaye Coulibaly, Head of the National Cultural Heritage Department in Bamako, is on mission in France from 3 to 21 June 2009 to gain an insight into our expertise in terms of protecting and enhancing heritage, particularly the French Heritage Inventory.
