This brochure is published by the Centre-Loire Valley Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs (DRAC) and has been produced with the help of architecture and heritage facilitators to mark the 30th anniversary of the Villes et pays d’art et d’histoire (Towns and regions of art and history/VPAH) listing, introduced in 1985. For the Centre-Loire Valley region VPAH network, this anniversary is an opportunity to play a part in the initiatives coordinated by Mission Val de Loire and all of the cultural and tourist stakeholders commemorating Francis I's ascension to the throne in 1515.

Beyond the big tourist draws, this publication showcases the full breadth of Renaissance architectural heritage to be found in the listed local areas, through a discovery itinerary.

It is available free of charge from the VPAH departments of the Centre-Loire Valley region and can be consulted online on the DRAC website.

This year, Chambord is replanting "Francis I's vines", 500 years after they were first introduced in the Loire Valley by order of the King himself in 1519. Part of the vines come from a quite exceptional source, since they pre-date the grape phylloxera crisis, harking back to at least 1840 and belonging to the Marionnet family. The first harvest is expected in 2019, which will be the anniversary year for when construction got underway on Chambord.

This new brochure rounds off the publication that came out in 2014 called "Laissez-vous conter la région Centre" (Listen to the story of the Centre region).
