A research programme coordinated by David Montembault (UP Paysage INHP Angers – Agrocampus Ouest) and bringing together researchers and landscape architects in an attempt to answer the question “Does participation lead to a renewal of landscaping practices? If so, how?” was selected in the context of the Ministry of Sustainable Development’s PDD2 (landscape and sustainable development programme) 2nd call for projects.
The programme associates 3 landscaping schools (Agrocampus Ouest, Versailles and Bordeaux) and will be experimenting with landscaping participation through action research in the Loire Valley and Deux-Sèvres.
Mission Val de Loire and the Anjou Touraine Nature Park are the project’s partners in the Loire Valley.
The 10 projects selected were presented during the seminar, which was held in Tours on the 29 and 30 March 2012.
The event provided the opportunity for a field trip to the Cher-Loire confluence, which is scheduled to be the setting for experimentation in the Loire Valley under the supervision of David Montembault. A stop-off in Villandry enabled participants to take a look at the Château, its gardens and the village itself, and to meet with a local-authority official in order to gain a better understanding of the issues involved in the municipality’s development.
The second afternoon was devoted to a session entitled “Landscape in the development of the Loire Valley”, which retraced the history of our region’s landscape from the OREALM’s Garden Metropolis project to the Loire Valley World Heritage site Management Plan.
