The "La Troglothèque" association was founded at the heart of the Village des Métiers d’Art de Turquant (Maine-et-Loire) at the end of last year with a view to showcasing and protecting troglodyte heritage.
The association’s missions include:
- Setting up and managing a resource centre: this is the association’s main mission. It is collecting all publications, accounts and archives, either through acquisition or donations, to create a physical and digital media library accessible to researchers and the public.
- Outreach activities and public events on local heritage: established in a region steeped in a wealth of troglodyte heritage, the Loire Valley, the Troglothèque plays an active part in teaching about the underground heritage in the Angers area through conferences, guided tours and workshops. The association also develops a number of partnerships with local heritage and tourism stakeholders.
- Artistic creation and support: encouraging artistic creation on the theme of the underground world and troglodytism is another core mission for the association, which is chaired by a professional photographer. Within the visitor and public events area, the Troglothèque will host temporary art and heritage exhibitions for the general public.
