The month of June is the opportunity to hop on your bike and pedal off in discovery of the Loire Valley landscapes listed as a World Heritage. 30 routes are available on the weekend of 29 & 30 June throughout the Centre region, while Anjou will be hosting the Bicycle Festival on Sunday 23 June. Let's not forget that, from 15 June, special carriages will be in place for accommodating bicycles.
This weekend the Centre Region invites you to come along with your family, friends or on your own to explore and relax along the Loire à Vélo cycle path. This offers up 30 routes based on 5 themes: good food, culture, heritage, nature and art in a festive atmosphere. On the programme: entertainment, tasting sessions, performances and exhibitions.
Organised by the Maine-et-Loire County Council, this event gives cyclists the chance to ride along the levees, which will be set aside exclusively for them for this event. Come and enjoy activities and exploration of landscapes and heritage along the Loire throughout the département.
From 15 June to 15 September 2013, the Centre and Pays de la Loire Regions will be once again conducting the Train-Vélo-Loire initiative – for one month more than in 2012. Carriages will be fitted out especially for accommodating bicycles on board Interloire trains between Orléans and Le Croisic.
Bicycles may be taken on to the trains free of charge, with a limited number of spaces available, and upon presentation of your train ticket.
Information and times on www.loire-a-velo.fr
Given the autumnal weather we've been having over the past few months, the La Loire à Vélo website has been warning at regular intervals that stretches of the cycle path are impracticable due to persistent high water levels in the Loire.
