As part of the technical assistance provided by the International Rivers and Heritage Institute to the decentralised cooperation programme between the Centre region and Luang Prabang province (Laos), Anne-Gaëlle Verdier, who is in charge of the Cooperation mission, made a three-week trip to Laos at the beginning of the year.
In addition to checking the technical progress of the Nam Khan eco-valley project (where a regional natural park is being developed on one of the Mekong's major tributaries) for which she is responsible, Ms Verdier assisted a Centre region mission (run by Mr Pascal Meyer, Director of International Relations, and Mr Serge Moro-Sibilot, Director of Tourism) which aims to identify the tools needed to structure the tourist sector in the Luang Prabang World Heritage site, and the links between heritage conservation and the development of tourism.
