This little pocket computer (PDA - Personal Digital Assistant), which was launched on 23 July 2007, is no bigger than a games console but allows visitors to discover the Abbey of Fontevraud at their own pace.

A cutting-edge service for visitors

The visitor only has to brush the touch-screen with their fingertips to choose their route or access a range of multimedia content for a better understanding of the abbey, including historical points of reference, a guide to the architecture, close-ups of details or even historical reconstructions of some of the rooms.
The Veasyguide (short for Very Easy Guide) is intended to be easy to use and flexible so as to allow everyone to enjoy their visit to the Abbey. It will soon be available in several languages other than French. Hire charge is €3.50.

The Project

The Abbey of Fontevraud was able to invest in this ground-breaking IT concept thanks to the support of local bodies, in particular the Conseil Régional des Pays de la Loire (Regional Council for the Pays de la Loire). The Veasyguide was produced under the aegis of operation Grand Versailles Numérique (Digital Grand Versailles) in partnership with the Châteaux of Versailles and Fontainebleau and with the support of DIACT (Interministerial Delegation on Territorial Development and Competitiveness) and is the result of close collaboration between the Abbey, the VeasyMedia company and the Autre Regard consultancy. It was tried out at the Château of Versailles from summer 2006 onwards and today is returning to its birthplace: Fontevraud.
This type of tool has the potential for further development and expresses perfectly the kind of dynamic approach that aims at constant improvement.
