Two major projects have recently been completed: the creation of a garden for Fontevraud Abbey by sixth-form students in the Pays de la Loire, and a cycle ride down the Loire by Year 9 students from Bracieux (41).

A garden in the Abbey

On Saturday 27 June 2009, the " wave garden" was officially opened at Fontevraud Royal Abbey in the presence of Marc Vayer, teacher and the brains behind the project, lots of students and their families, Bernard Violain, Vice-President of the Pays de la Loire Region, Xavier Kawa-Topor, Abbey Director and heads of the Herbiers, Montaigu and Montreuil-Bellay sixth-form colleges.

This was the culmination of a 3-year educational project involving students specialising in Applied Arts for their Industrial Sciences and Technologies A level at the Léonard de Vinci sixth-form college in Montaigu (85). They worked in partnership with students from the agricultural sixth-form college of Montreuil-Bellay (49) and students taking the Products two-year post A-level diploma in Herbiers (85). Bringing students face to face with specifications and a real creation, this project was funded by the Pays-de-la-Loire region with grants for exceptional and innovative educational projects .

Euroveloloire

From 19 to 30 June 2009, 71 Year 9 students from Hubert Fillay secondary school in Bracieux (41) cycled down the Loire in relay from its source to the Estuary.

The goals of the project, thought up by the teacher Jean-Yves Muneret and funded by the Centre region, were to:
  • foster cooperation, around the theme of the Loire
  • motivate students to think about the impact of Man's impressions on this river
  • explore the environment on the banks of the Loire.

The students took part in the World Heritage Rendezvous on 27 June in Amboise.
