This event, run by the European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centres (ENCATC), was organised in partnership with the Catholic University of the West, l’Université Catholique de l’Ouest, (UCO) and in conjunction with Europa Nostra (the Pan-European Federation for Heritage), the Cultural Centre of the West, le Centre Culturel de l’Ouest, in Fontevraud and the International Rivers and Heritage Institute, l’Institut international fleuves et patrimoine. It took place on 31 March and 1 & 2 April 2006 at the Abbaye Royale in Fontevraud.
The aim of the workshop was to analyse the service offered to visitors at heritage sites, to explore the terminology relating to heritage mediation at an international level, to share and disseminate experiences and case studies which illustrate good practice, and to review the training programmes available in this area.
The Director of International Activities of the International Rivers and Heritage Institute, Vincent Rotgé, took part together with Marielle Richon, from the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, in a series of sessions devoted to heritage mediation in international projects. After the presentations, the participants examined together the advantages and feasibility of developing a joint project/programme on the subject of mediation at heritage sites.
