The Grand Chambord community of municipalities had teamed up with the State and Domaine national de Chambord as part of an initiative to obtain "Grand site de France" recognition. Their efforts paid off on 6 November 2019 when they were officially awarded the label.

"Grand Site" status is awarded by the Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition. It recognises areas that adopt a management approach in line with the principles of sustainable development, combining preservation of the landscape and the "sense of places", high-quality visitor reception and the participation of locals and partners in the life of the Grand Site.

Grand Chambord had applied for the label back in February 2018, and received the Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition's approval a year later. Since October 2019, it has been a member of the Grands Sites de France Network . This brings together not only sites that have already been awarded the label but also those committed to obtaining it. This particularly enables the latter to benefit from the experience of other members in terms of preserving and enhancing remarkable landscapes and from support in obtaining the "Grand Site de France" label from the Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition.

A range of actions is already planned as part of Grand Chambord's Grand Site initiative, including actively protecting and restoring the landscape-related, natural and cultural quality of the site, enhancing visitor experience and fostering local socio-economic development with consideration taken of residents ... but the issue of mobility is one of the priorities.
