The State is launching a sweeping programme encompassing 222 municipalities to reverse the declining appeal that many small- and mid-sized French city centres are experiencing: "Action cœur de ville". Within the Loire Valley World Heritage listed site, Saumur, Chinon and Blois are included.
The programme has 2 key aims:
The towns set to benefit from this programme are expected to draw up a five-year framework agreement with the State for revitalising their downtown area.

Over €5bn worth of investment is being ring-fenced to address this key challenge for territorial cohesion.
