As part of the scientific mission of the Loire nature programme, an observatory will be set up with the aim of gaining better knowledge of and monitoring natural heritage in waterways and wetland zones in the basin.
The aim of Loire nature watch (the
Observatoire de la Loire) is to count animal populations and
to gather and analyse the data collected. It will mean that
the evolution of the natural heritage can be monitored, so that the
impact of planning and management policies on the area can be
evaluated. At the end, a thorough knowledge of all of the wetland
zones of the Loire basin will have been established. A catalogue of
currently available data sources concerning the basin will be
created and made available to everyone.
